Lot 21 of 739: Votive Socketed Axe. Circa 1100 BC - 400 AD. Bronze, 2.29 grams. 15.59 mm. A late Bronze Age to Roman miniature axe in the form of a Bronze Age looped and socketed type. Such axe heads are considered to be miniature representations and possibly votive offerings of their full sized counterparts and have been associated with 'ritual' (cringe) activity or worn as amulets.
