Lot 63 of 739: Anglo-Saxon Iron Spear A large iron spear head, 258.78 mm. C. 500-700 AD.The spear has the typical slender leaf shape distinctive of Swanton C3, or possibly C4. There is a clear mid-rib, forming the lozenge cross section of the blade. The open socket, forming approximately one half of the length, has a diameter of 15 mm. Ref: A Corpus of Anglo-Saxon Spear-Types' by M J Swanton, 1974. Originally found on the Thames foreshore in London and purchased by a private collector.
