Lot 73 of 739: Viking Strap-End. Circa, AD 1050-1100. Copper-alloy, 5.33 grams, 41.25 mm. A zoomorphic strap end in the form a stylised bird with beast like head, most likely representing a Raven of Odin. The mouth of the bird contains the base of a triangular flattened cone which curves round to create a hollow with a separate back plate and two rivets to hold the strap end. The birdt has a fan shaped tail leading into a long thin body with wings folded close. Both the tail and the wings have incised lines.
