Lot 77 of 739: Anglo-Saxon Strap-End. Circa 8th - 9th century AD. Copper-alloy, 5.31 grams. 43.46 mm. A zoomorphic strap-end detailed with a stylised animal head terminal and a central design with niello inlay. The design is formed of an expanding cross motif within a circular panel enclosed by a Trewhiddle style frame. Above is an almost lozenge shape panel with the same style decoration, the two original fixing rivets remain intact. Ref: British Artefacts, vol 2. p. 48-49. Property of an Essex collector.
