Lot 88 of 739: Viking Stirrup Mount.  Circa, 10th-11th century AD. Copper-alloy, 18.78 grams. 45.84 mm. A zoomorphic stirrup mount of class A. The decorated face consists of a large zoomorphic head at the apex with looping tendrils on each side defined by open-work circular perforations. The base has a projection on each side forming stylised animal heads. In the middle of the piece are two patches of niello with silver inlay. Ref: Williams, class A, type 8. From the collection of a retired detectorist.
