Lot 167 of 739: Medieval Tumbrel.  Circa 13th century AD. Copper-alloy, 24.08 grams. 81.29 mm. A good quality complete trebuchet or tumbrel-type folding coin balance in a near perfect state of preservation. The piece is detailed with a stylised zoomorphic head terminal and double collar decoration. These coin balances became more popular during the reign of Edward I, who in 1292 proclaimed that money should be weighed to prevent the circulation of clipped silver coinage.
