IWA Christie Challenge Trophy - Hallmarked silver 16cm 1950 was a good year for the presentation of cups at IWA. This is a hallmarked silver (122g) double handled cup measuring 16 cm tall. It was first presented in 1950 with an inscription that reads "1950 AEO Northampton Sea Cadet Corps (255 Unit) - Hickling Duck" Cmor & Mrs Brooks. The cup was presented by eminent IWA supporter E W H Christie, who worked as a lawyer specialising in the rights of highways & inland waterways. Christie was a strong advocate for the waterways, having bought a canal boat hull in 1948 and converted it into a houseboat. He spend his holidays and free time exploring what survived of the canal system and worked tirelessly lobbying on behalf of the restitution and maintenance of canals .
