Lot 40 of 442: Anglo-Saxon Pommel.  Circa 7th-8th century AD, 53.20 mm. A copper-alloy pommel fitting of the cocked hat type, plain with no decoration. The piece has a rectangular opening through the centre that would have allowed the iron tang to be passed through and secured, finishing the sword assembly. Complete and undamaged. A Norfolk find purchased by a private collector from a London dealer mid 1990's. Accompanied by old dealer ticket.
