Lot 43 of 442: Anglo-Saxon Mount. Circa 9th century AD. Size: 18 mm. 3,9 grams.  A circular mount with a single fixing point on the reverse. The face of the piece is detailed with the image of a beast looking back similar to many 10th century brooch types. This depiction is somewhat different with the front leg turning upward along the breast and the head being very unusual, almost bird-like with a curled lower jaw. For similar animal styles see: Ref: G. Speake. Anglo-Saxon Art, fig. 13. a-k.
