Lot 106 of 442: Silver Hawking Vervel   Circa, 17th century. Silver, 0.7 grams. 9mm x 2mm. A D-shaped band, flat on the outer face and inscribed 'Of Dauntesey'. The name could refer to the surname of the Dauntesey family who originally took their name from the manor of Dauntsey, or it could have belonged to a resident of Dauntsey. The village is located in North Wiltshire not far from the ancient town of Malmesbury. Hawking vervels frequently bear the name, place of residence or both of the owner of the hawk.
