These tokens imitate the silver pennies of the period and were produced in Bury St Edmunds for the Holy festival of St Nicholas.  "The cult of St Nicholas and its associated 'Boy Bishop' tradition—which derived from the saint's patronage of children and involved the choosing of a boy to be dressed up as the saint, who then performed ecclesiastical duties in the period around St Nicho
