Lot 183 of 381: A silver hammered Venetian soldino of Doge Leonardo Loredan (1501-1521). Obverse: LE LAV DVX S.M.V, Doge kneeling left receiving standard from St Mark. Reverse: LAVS TIBI SOLI, Christ nimbate holding cross. Mint of Venice.  Discussion: Soldini were known colloquially as 'galley-halfpence' or 'galyhalpens', and were regarded as a nuisance by the government of 15th and early 16th century England.
