Lot 232 of 381: A complete cast copper-alloy probable hairpin of Roman date, c. AD 43-410. This example belongs to the 'knob on cordon heads' group, the head being practically biconical, decorated on each side with a single incised chevron. Underneath this, a series of transverse collars and flared segments alternate before transitioning into the plain shank. The latter is circular in section and tapers to a sharp point. As a result of post-depositional damage, the pin is now somewhat distorted into an 'S' shap
