Lot 58 of 796: Roman Peacock.  Circa, 2nd-4th century AD. Copper-alloy, 8.95 g, 37.38 mm. A protome in the form of a peacock with a tall crest on its head, no tail but a rivet in its place. Thought to be mounts from caskets or lamp stands. The peacock was a cult emblem of Juno who was the consort of Jupiter and mother of Minerva. Ref: Mills, Celtic & Roman Artefacts. p.129. fig. RB409.
