Lot 17 of 988: Celtic Linch Pin Terminal.  Circa, 1st century BC-1st century AD. Copper-alloy, 40mm x 21mm x 19mm, 47.9g. A rare, heavy cast bronze terminal from a linch pin decorated with red enamel cells. Terminals of this form are often known as a 'hoof' type terminals (Hutcheson 2004 p. 109). Hutcheson illustrates similar examples, and ascribes a Late Iron Age to early Roman date. Some Yorkshire parallels can be seen in Stead 1991: 44-46. These examples were found in cemetery contexts in East Yorkshire.
