Lot 25 of 988: Roman Plate Brooch.  Circa 3rd century AD. Copper-alloy, 37.18 mm. An unusual plate type brooch in the form of a flower, depicted with eight slender petals each with a circular terminal. The petals and terminal would have originally been fully enamelled with alternating red and blue cells. Traces of this enamel can still be seen. Ref: Hattatt, Ancient Brooches. p.347.
