Lot 96 of 988: Medieval Heraldic Roundel.  Circa, 14th century AD. Copper-alloy, 47.47 mm. A large round mount with a wide gilded border enclosing a star (hexagram) with white enamelled cells around a central lion's head. Between each arm of the star is an engraved triple leaf motif. Roundels adorned either strap fittings over armour or martingales; the effigy of the Black Prince (d. 1376) in Canterbury Cathedral shows similar armorial roundels adorning the sword belt Ref: Egan & Pritchard 1991:183-4.
