An archive of material relating to Roland Stockdale, a Metropolitan Police officer who worked for the Queen’s personal protection force during the 1950s, comprising: Roland Stockdale's expenses book for 1956, copiously filled with pencil notes recording his travels between royal residences, transport costs, subsistence, and lodgings; a photographic portrait of Stockdale in his police uniform, Regent studio, 22.5cm by 15cm, framed & glazed; Stockdale's RAF officers peaked cap; a letter written by Roland Stockdale, signed 'Ro', describing a stay at Birkhall, including a staff dance at Balmoral, undated, Birkhall letterhead, 10pp. on six leaves, and a 4pp. comic poem in the same hand [Roland Stockdale], concerning 'Prince Philip's beard'; seven invitation cards for Roland & Audrey Stockdale to attend a dance in the Ball Room of Balmoral Castle, 1956 (x 2), 1957, 1958 (x 3), 1959; two invitation cards for Mr. & Mrs. Stockdale to attend a Christmas Party at Clarence House, 1957 & 1958; an invitation card to The Soviet Exhibition, 1961; six menu cards bearing the royal cypher, one typed, others manuscript, 1957-58; a pewter tankard bearing engraved inscription, 'To Roland Stockdale from C.I.D. Colleagues "L" Division, Metropolitan Police, 22.6.1972'; Stockdale's Identity Card, stamped 'Metropolitan Police', 1940, and Registered Guide card for the same, Windsor, 1958; a small quantity of black & white photographs of Roland Stockdale, including one taken inside the Information Room at Scotland Yard, plus later colour photographs taken outside Royal Lodge; a Sketch Plan of Windsor Great Park, printed by The Estates Gazette Ltd., undated, folded within envelope marked 'not to be destroyed'; 18 blank/unused sheets of letterhead paper from Clarence House, Birkhall, and 10 Downing Street; a Christmas card, signed 'Berkeley', RAF Hillingdon; an album of messages from Stockdale's friends, 1920s (predominantly quotations, puns, proverbs). Together with a small quantity of material relating to Russell Stockdale [a forensic scientist notable for his work on the "Yorkshire Ripper" case], including his geography school workbook, his illustrated childhood diary for 1954-55, his Post Office savings book, five certificates including one from the Royal Microscopical Society, 1972, and a newspaper supplement, 'Help Us Catch the Ripper'
