Lot 1053 of 217: Anglo-Saxon, an anonymous silver sceatta of the Secondary Phase series E (subtype 2) dating c. AD 710-750. Obverse: quilled animal with triangular head enclosing pellet eye, cross below. Reverse: rectangular beaded standard containing four bars, two pellets flanking central enlarged annulet. Cross pommée projects from each side (?) of standard. Probably struck in Frisia. About Very Fine, the reverse better. Diameter: c. 12mm. Weight: 0.97g. Abramson (2006) fig.
