Lot 1093 of 217: Post-medieval, silver groat of Mary I (1553-1558), dating c. 1553-1554. Obverse: MARIA D G ANG FRA Z HIB REGI, crowned bust left. Reverse: VERITA/S TEM/PORIS/FILIA, Royal Arms quartered by long cross fourchée. Initial mark: pomegranate, Tower mint. About Fine for issue, well centred and nicely struck, the reverse slightly better. Portrait characteristically weakly struck but a good example. Diameter: c. 24mm. Weight: 2.09g. N1960.  Provenance: English collection, ex S Eves.
