Historica & Metal Detecting Finds 3% Surcharge(#184) 25/11/2019 10:00 AM GMT CLOSED!

Lot 1185 of 217: A group of sixteen cast lead-alloy tokens, dating c. 1500-1800. Various designs, most cross-pellet, flower or 'sunburst' designs. Diameters ranging from c. 14-25mm.  Discussion: lead-alloy tokens were produced in large numbers, primarily during the 17th and 18th centuries. Their function is hotly debated, though it is thought that many were produced as a form of redeemable local currencies by enterprising businesses.
