Historica & Metal Detecting Finds 3% Surcharge(#184) 25/11/2019 10:00 AM GMT CLOSED!

Lot 1190 of 217: Post-Medieval, a copper-alloy 'crotal' type animal bell of probable 18th century date. Spherical in plan, the bell demonstrates a prominent midrib, petalled sides and the foundry mark of 'WG' either side of the narrow slit which delineates its sound chamber.  Discussion: the foundry mark on this piece denotes it as a probable product of William Gwynn, who worked out of his foundry at Aldbourne, Wiltshire, from c. 1770-1813.
