An important collection of signatures and letters collected by the archaeologist and author Hodder Michael Westropp (b.1820 County Cork, Ireland, - 1884).
Educated at Trinity College, Dublin. Hodder M Westropp wrote what is probably the first handbook of archaeology ever produced, added to Petrie's work on Irish Round Towers and defined the term Mesolithic*.
A folio of forty-one gilt edge card leaves containing numerous pasted down signatures and letters, many of which on embossed headed paper together with visiting cards and photographic cards, bound in a gilt tooled red morocco binding with front board gilt embossed initials "H,M,W".
Much of the correspondence refers to gifts of books and papers written by Westropp and date from 1860's to early 1880's.

Queen Victoria (1819-1901), two pasted down signature examples.
Napoleon III (b. 1808, Paris - 1873), President of the Second Republic of France, a signed photographic card dated 1872.
