Lot 155 of 263: A cast copper-alloy medieval sword pommel. The pommel is sub-circular in plan, with two flat faces, a chamfered edge and a flat edge running around the circumference.This is a wheel pommel (Type VIII), as defined in the Medieval Catalogue of the London Museum (Ward Perkins, 1940, p22, figure 1). Ward Perkins (ibid p28) states that the type appears to have evolved during the later thirteenth century from the simple disc pommel (Type V).
