Lot 205 of 466: A Boer War era ‘Gentleman in Kharki’ sterling silver cigarette case. Hallmarked for Birmingham 1899, with the makers mark for W.H.Tandy & Sons. Nicely engraved to the front with the classic Gentleman in Kharki, a winded British soldier standing defiant with his Lee Metford rifle. The original picture was by Richard Caton Woodville, and often accompanied the Rudyard Kipling poem, ‘The Absent-Minded Begger’.
