June Historica and Artefacts Auction(#656) 24/06/2024 9:30 AM GMT+1 CLOSED!

Lot 27 of 286: A highly unique and large 26g. 49x47mm, copper alloy, double tiered Roman lozenge shaped brooch. The lower tier features a gorgeous blue/white chequer board pattern with 8 knops around the edges (4 looped, 4 filled). The centre features a raised square, lipped platform that would've had enamel set into it, this had 4 looped knops but 2 are missing. No pin. The Metropolitan Museum of Art have a very close example to this in their collection but theirs is circular rather than lozenge shaped.
