Lot 13 A WW1 Mercantile Marine War Medal, awarded to Peters Burns, a possible S.S. Lusitania casualty. The first name of ‘Peters’ is unusual, and there does not appear to be anyone of this name on Mercantile Marine Medal roll. However, there are 3 ‘Peter Burns’ on the roll, one born in 1855 in Sunderland, one in Liverpool in 1866, and one in 1880 in Liverpool. The Peter Burns from the Lusitania was mentioned as being 34 years old when the ship sank on May 7th 1915, with his rating being ‘trimmer’.
