Lot 51 of 95: Tour 1. Donated by Dr R.E. Foster F.R. Hist. Soc., biographer of Sidney Herbert: Guided tour of Embley, Hampshire home of the Nightingales from 1825 for a group of up to six people. Highlights include the cedar of Lebanon tree under which she is said to have received her first calling from God in 1837, her father’s library (where he tutored her and where she received at least one proposal of marriage), and the drawing room where she endured hours of ‘silent misery in the 1840s.
