WITHDRAWN --- The Beatles. Watercolour poster design by a young fan at Wispers School, West Sussex in 1963, signed in blue ballpoint pen, "Paul McCartney", "George Harrison", "John Lennon", and "Ringo Starr". Together with the young fan's original diary/scrapbook from 1963-64, 'My French Holiday and Other Events', which records the day she received the poster, 'To-day 5th December 1963 I got a parcel at school. The parcel was this envelop [sic] in which was enclosed the poster I sent to the Beatles. They had signed it. I told a few people and lo! I had caused an uproar in the Junior Common Room. I was mobbed by screaming juniors! I fled to the Senior Common Room. That was worse!...I had to stand on the table for safety! I quite see why the Beatles avoid mobs!' The original envelope, postmarked 4 December 1963, is inscribed, 'Beatles autographs arrived in this'. The diary is copiously inscribed with details of trips to see various stage shows and films (including some pasted/taped programmes and ticket stubs), parties, young romance, holidays, and humorous poems about school. The diary also includes contemporaneous clippings of The Beatles. The poster is inscribed verso, 'My Dear Beatles, This is from our Halloween party. I wish you the best of singing luck & would be very grateful if you'd acknowledge the fact that I have written. If you have time I would be pleased if you send me your autographs. I enclose a stamped address envelope. Luv, Gill'. The poster, which was evidently folded many times to fit into the small envelope, has fold-lines/creasing and a few tears; it was also laminated with strips of tape, and this has discoloured over time. We are unable to authenticate or vouch for the authenticity of the signatures (2) Provenance: Vendor was author of diary and designer of poster
