Lot 257 of 381: An incomplete cast Late Anglo-Saxon (c. 900-1000) copper-alloy openwork strap end of Thomas’ (2000) class E, type 1: Winchester Style tongue shaped strap ends with inhabited foliage designs. The strap end is tongue-shaped in plan, its upper edge missing in old breaks. On its front, the design of two confronted upside-down birds flanking a central pillar of foliage is visible, the latter demonstrating symmetrical, lobe-ended leaves. Length: 36mm.
