Lot 256 of 381: An incomplete cast copper-alloy Early Anglo-Saxon/Early Medieval brooch of saucer type, probably dating c. AD 450-600. The brooch is circular in plan, the catchplate and pin lug (encrusted with the remains of the iron pin) visible on its reverse face. The front face of the brooch is decorated with a characteristic design for this period: a pellet in ring surrounded by six 'running spirals' The raised outer flange appears to be mostly broken away.  Saucer brooches were produced up until the end
