Lot 24 of 263: Saxon Brooch. Circa, 8th-9th century AD. Copper-alloy, 6.76grams, L44mm. A Middle Saxon (Early Medieval) copper alloy Ansate or caterpillar brooch. U-shaped in section and formed of two equal arms with a high arch in the centre. The arms are decorated with a series of horizontal lines between forming four sections. A line of chevrons run end to end down the spine of the brooch. On the reverse is a double pin bar lug and large catch plate but the pin is missing.
