Lot 25 of 263: Saxon Brooch. Circa, 8th-9th century AD. Copper-alloy, 9.86grams, 44mm. A Middle Saxon (Early Medieval) copper alloy Ansate or caterpillar brooch. U-shaped in section and formed of two equal arms with a high arch in the centre. A thick rectangular strip formed out of five uneven square panels with an unknown pattern carved inside each panel. Reverse has a double pin bar lug and incomplete catch plate with no pin present.
